In a twist so perfectly absurd it could have been scripted by late-night television, a Rhode Island Trump supporter reportedly splashed out US$640 on a limited-edition Trump-branded watch for his wife — only to discover the most important letter had gone AWOL.
The gleaming pink “Inauguration First Lady” timepiece was supposed to proudly read TRUMP. Instead, in what may be the most unfortunate merchandising malfunction of the year, the dial simply declared: RUMP. One tiny missing “T”, one giant leap for internet mockery.
The watch, bought from GetTrumpWatches.com, was reportedly one of only 250 made, though this particular version may now be even rarer: the accidental “Rump Edition”. According to reports, the disappointed couple questioned how such an obvious error made it through quality control, especially on a product carrying presidential branding. The website’s fine print says the watches are licensed products and not made, sold or distributed by Donald Trump or the Trump Organization.
The company later apologised and reportedly offered a replacement and coupon. But by then, the damage was done. The internet had its punchline, collectors had their curiosity, and somewhere, one missing “T” had achieved immortality.
In the world of political merchandise, timing is everything. Spelling, apparently, is optional.
